Favorite Things

I’ve found several new things lately that I’ve really enjoyed having. I thought you might enjoy them as well.

1. These Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie N Oreo Fudge Brownie Bars from www.KevinAndAmanda.com:

I made them the other night for the girls, and they were a big hit. I took a few minutes to look around their site while I was there, and OH MY! There are so many yummy things that I want to try. I knew I’d like Kevin and Amanda as soon as I saw their cute little profile picture and they were both wearing Auburn shirts.

2. The burlap TOMS:

I coveted them on Pinterest the other night wished for them from afar. Then PattiGirl needed some Keen’s for school so we went to Mountain Outfitters. Lo and behold! They had the burlap TOMS in stock. And in my size. I went ahead and took it as a sign from the Lord that I should have them.

3. The Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies from www.SweetPeasKitchen.com:

Don’t they look divine? The recipe came from a new-to-me website called Sweet Pea’s Kitchen. Just like Kevin and Amamda, there are some fabulous looking reipes on her site that I can’t wait to try. The red velvet brownies were incredible. Mine turned out a smidge cakier than I liked because my eggs were too large. Next time I need to adjust that. And there will definitely be a next time for these yummy treats. They will for sure be put into the regular dessert rotation here at the Hill Hangout.

4. This organization system for transient items from www.TheRedChairBlog.com:

I executed it a little differently in my laundry room. I used a $35 stainless steel rack from Target and some $6 fabric bins from Walmart. I can’t tell you how nice it is to have a place to put the STUFF that usually gets dumped on my desk: library books, school bags, items to be returned to a store, gifts waiting to be given, items going to the King’s Home. Hallelujah! It’s so good to get the clutter off my desk and into a proper place.

5. The Dear America Series of books for young ladies:

This series includes fictionalized diaries from young girls from different eras in history. We’ve been studying the Civil War, so we started with When Will This Cruel War Be Over? It’s the account of Emma Simpson, a young Confederate girl. After that, we moved on to A Light In The Storm, the diary of Amelia Martin who ran a lighthouse in Delaware, one of the neutral states during the Civil War. Now we’re reading the story of Clotee, a slave girl on a southern plantation during the war. It’s called A Picture of Freedom.
